The day started off beautifully with sunshine and a great temperature. The kids rugby started again with a good turnout of little ones to enjoy running around and some coordination and ball handling skills. They all seemed to enjoy the games and running in the fresh air with a great view of the mountains on both sides of the city. A great location for a Saturday run around.

Then it was time to get the players outfitted for the game against the visiting team. The Referee(Rueben Mills) for the game did a great job keeping the pace of the game going. Also a big Thank You to Harry who came out early and helped with the marking of the field prior to the game.

It was a great turnout of Misfits for the game with 29 players that all enjoyed some time on the field. It was great to see the mix of players on the field with some new and old experienced Misfits playing together again. There was also a good turnout of supporters enjoying the game and visiting as well. Two players were contributing factors to the Leigh Layabouts team win. Konstantin Dimitrov and Stefan Popov had the enjoyment of being on the plus side of the field with the final score being 22-20 for the Layabouts. It was a full field game with almost everybody having the chance to get their hands on the ball and do some running. The Misfits had a range of players from age 15 to 40+ on the field and several countries represented. The mix of people on the Misfits team is a great thing to see with the game of rugby bringing them all together. The experienced players supporting the younger enthusiastic players to show the way to play the game and be a part of the team.

At least some of the time….. note to rookies… don’t do everything the veterans do.

It’s time for our second big game this year!

The game will be played on Saturday at our new field – the Benkovski stadium. Kick off 12:30 pm. Make sure you come at least an hour before the game if you plan to play. If you need a ride to the stadium – there will be a meeting at 11:00 at the Nevski parking lot. Google maps for directions to the Benkovski stadium.

Also there will be a meeting with the Leigh Layabouts on Friday, 8 pm at J.J.Murphy’s.

Време е за втория ни голям мач тази година!

Мачът ще се играе в събота на новия ни терен – стадионът в Бенковски. Начало – 12:30 часа. Всеки който смята да вземе участие трябва да дойде поне час преди мача. Ако някой има нужда от превоз – отново ще имаме среща в 11:00 часа на паркинга зад Ал. Невски (ул. Оборище). Google карта с указания къде се намира стадионът в Бенковски.

Leigh Layabouts

As you already know, we move to a new field for touch and games from now on. Some guys with cars will meet this Saturday April 09 at 12:00 in the Nevski Cathedral parking lot off Oborishte to go there. If someone needs a ride you can meet us there at 12:00. We will have a BBQ and go and watch a Junior rugby tournament organized by the Bulgarian Rugby Federation until 14:00 and then have a touch run around afterwards.

Както вече знаете, местим се на нов терен където занапред ще играем тъч и бъдещите ни мачове. Някои момчета с коли ще ни чакат тази събота, 9-ти април в 12:00 на паркинга пред “Св. Ал. Невски” (ул. Оборище). Ако някой има нужда от превоз може да ни намери там в 12:00 ч. Като стигнем на стадиона в Бенковски ще си направим барбекю и ще изгледаме юношеския ръгби турнир, който БФ Ръгби организира. До към 14 часа турнирът трябва да приключи, след което ще проведем и играта тъч-ръгби.

We are having our final touch and Misfits gathering at NSA this Saturday April 02 at 12:30. We will have the regular event and a BBQ afterwards to say our goodbye to the shitty ground at NSA. We will move to a new pitch for the following Saturday with directions coming next week.

Последната ни игра на тъч-ръгби на терените на НСА ще се проведе тази събота, 2-ри април от 12:30 часа. Ще проведем обичайна тренировка, след която ще има барбекю и (доста) бира с които да кажем довиждане на мястото, където играехме досега. От следващата събота се местим на нов терен, като подробности къде и как се стига ще бъдат обявени следващата седмица.

Our first game in the season was a baptism of fire for several new and young players, and there were some speculations and low expectations about our overall performance agains the far more experienced visitors from Horley RFC.

Surprisingly, Murphy’s Misfits was dominating in the first quarter launching effective attacks and displaying good skills and team spirit.
Our poor experience and fitness in defense began to count in the dying minutes of the first half and the visitors did not fail to capitalize on every single mistake all along.
Despite the growing margin both in score and performance, we did not give up and kept on playing open and running rugby, and three counterattacks resulted in crossing over the opponents’ goal line.
Final score: Misfits 15 : Horley 68.

The visitors proved to be an excellent touring side and we had great time togheter both off and on the field.

They had another strong performance the next day versus Bulgaria’s current 7s and 15s champion (virtually this was Bulgaria’s national XV with very few exeptions), where they dominated the scrums and break downs, and deservedly scored three spectacular tries (one disallowed).
Final score: National Sport Academy 57 : Horley 10.
